Dear Diary,
It was a holiday today, so I decided to take myself out on a date. Its something a lot of people like to do here, to go out by themselves. Its something I could have never imagined doing back home. Everyone was always urging me to make friends because loners are considered lonely. But I love my own company and this is a city that lets me embrace it. So, I stopped at a little cafe, bought myself a sandwich and a cold coffee, sent my colleague a bitter text about the exorbitant prices (its become somewhat of a tradition between us) and made my way to the seafront. It was a beautiful evening. The sun was setting the entire horizon was ablaze in a beautiful combination of pink, yellow and dark blue. Somewhere, an aspiring musician strummed a guitar. The breeze carried with it whiffs of jasmine and stray bit of conversation. I remember hugging myself. I remember feeling one with the moment. I remember feeling complete. Beyond me lay the sea and beyond it, the endless horizon. Perhaps there are things about this city that I love. Or at least like. Perhaps, it can be my home.

Prairies loom across the horizon, like a surreal carpet made out of dried, fragrant bouquets. As if I was walking through a painting, Dahlias began blooming through the beige gold grass. Before I realised it, the grassland was lined with sand rose Dahlia blooms that had lit up the place from out of nowhere!
This is a sand-rose coloured, handloom cotton, kimono tie-up sleeved overlay dress with beautiful Herringbone hand embroidery accents.
Handloom cotton is a type of fabric that is woven using hand operated looms. Two sets of interlacing yarns, the warp (length) and weft (width), are woven on a mechanised loom operated by weavers. These looms do not use electricity. Human handling lends the fabrics a unique feel and renders the fabrics more value. The resultant fabric is softer and much more comfortable than machine-made fabrics. Handloom cotton is more breathable and thus feels lighter in summers and is perfect for layering in winters.
The art of hand weaving is labour intensive and takes a longer time. But, the beauty it adds to the fabric is priceless. Choosing handloom cotton supports the rich weaving heritage of India and lets the weavers carry on the precious art-form to the future generations as well.
The Herringbone hand-embroidery on the overlay garment is done by a group of beautiful women artisans at Suta. This dress has an easy-fit that allows space for freedom of movement, breathability and flow. This can be styled separately as well as part of an ensemble.

It’s been three days since I’ve moved here and two since I began work. Everyone is so nice and eager to help. But they’re always so busy. People have so much to do that, sometimes, I wonder how they remember to eat or even breathe! My team decided to go out for drinks after work and they invited me too. The day I’ve been dreaming about is finally here - I’ve made the big move to the City of Dreams. It’s a bittersweet feeling... while I’m excited for the journey ahead, it was very hard to say goodbye to everyone back home. The first thing I noticed about Mumbai is how much I sweat here. It’s so hot and humid, and it’s still spring! I have to go shopping - none of the clothes I brought with me make any sense here. I am taken aback by how small the apartments here are! My entire house is the size of my room back home. But home is so far away. It feels as though my entire life has been packed into little cardboard boxes and all those boxes placed inside a slightly bigger box. Tomorrow, I will begin unpacking. For today, I will savour the last memories of home that still linger on my jacket. The smells, the sounds, the familiar comfort of a place I’ve known my entire life. I will savour each moment of this evening and then stow them away in a faraway corner of my mind, so that I have room to make new memories. Perhaps I will learn to fall in love with Bombay just like so many others before me have. Perhaps I’ll hate it. Only time can tell.
